the Unseen Under İstiklal Street - RATS

This project focuses on rats that already exist in our city and live very close to us, within the spaces we inhabit and along the routes we walk, yet mostly remain hidden behind walls or beneath the streets.

The project is located in Beyoğlu, on İstiklal Street. Beneath the ground, a LED system is installed within specially designed channels created for rats. This system is covered with a tempered frosted glass surface. After dark, pedestrians walking along the street are able to observe the routes of the rats moving beneath the ground.

 

In this way, we do not physically see the rats, while at the same time becoming aware of our silent companions that grind our waste and play an important role in maintaining ecological balance.
